Our Founder

Gail Swift started Swift School in 1998 as a small home school for five children. It grew to nine children before the end of the first year and to eighteen by the beginning of the next.Gail_Swift_Portrait

Gail has always been an advocate for language-based learning differences since she, her daughter, and her grandson are dyslexic. “We teach a strong language- based curriculum at Swift School with our core being the Orton-Gillingham approach," Ms. Swift says. "This format is one of the oldest and most successful approaches created for the dyslexic child.”

Additionally, Swift School provides a complete curriculum including a writing program, math, science, social studies, the arts, and physical education, honoring the whole child. We know that children are gifted in various areas, and our aim is to improve self-esteem while building academic skills.

To have a learning difference is to look at life differently. Dyslexic children can learn strategies to adapt to the academic and share their own strengths. “There is light at the end of the tunnel for all of our children," Ms. Swift adds.  "I have taught for over 37 years, 28 of those with children that learn differently. This is my niche in life and I love it!”

We are grateful for Gail Swift's passion, and we celebrate her legacy annually through Founder's Day.
